Navigating a family law case can feel overwhelming, especially when you are representing yourself. The morning session is designed to help participants better understand the Arizona Superior Court family law process and prepare to move through their case with greater clarity.

Topics Include

  • Divorce

    Understand the general Arizona divorce process, common stages of a case, filing considerations, timelines, and what may happen after a Petition for Dissolution is filed.

  • Modifications

    Learn about situations in which an existing family court order may potentially be modified, the importance of changed circumstances, and procedural considerations when requesting changes to existing orders.

  • Property

    Learn foundational concepts regarding property and debt issues that may arise during an Arizona divorce, including the importance of identifying, organizing, and documenting financial information.

  • Filing Requirements

    Understand common Superior Court documents, procedural requirements, service considerations, deadlines, filing practices, and mistakes that may unnecessarily delay a family law matter.

This session may be helpful for individuals who are considering divorce, currently involved in a divorce, seeking to modify an existing order, or trying to better understand the Superior Court filing process.

Child Custody, Child Support, Enforcement & Parenting Plans

This session focuses on some of the most important issues parents encounter in Arizona family court. Participants will receive practical education regarding cases involving children and existing family court orders, with an emphasis on matters commonly addressed through the Maricopa County Superior Court.

Topics Include

  • Child Custody / Establishments

    Arizona concepts involving legal decision-making and parenting time, including the difference between establishing orders and modifying existing orders. Arizona courts generally use the terms legal decision-making and parenting time, even though many members of the public commonly refer to these issues as “custody.”

  • Child Support

    An educational overview of Arizona child support, including information commonly considered in determining support, documentation participants should expect to gather, and circumstances that may affect existing support orders.

  • Enforcement

    What it means when one party believes another person is failing to comply with a family court order, the importance of understanding the actual language of an existing order, documenting alleged violations, and following the appropriate court process when seeking enforcement.

  • Parenting Plans

    The role parenting plans play in Arizona family law cases and the issues parents should think through when developing or evaluating a parenting schedule: parenting time schedules, holidays, exchanges, transportation, communication, decision-making, school schedules, vacation time, conflict reduction, and practical implementation.

This session may be helpful for parents establishing family court orders, navigating parenting-time issues, dealing with child support, seeking enforcement of an existing order, or preparing a parenting plan.
